Sherman VC Firefly - My first project part II

Hi mates! As you saw in the previous post, I covered sherman with red primer. Why red? This was my idea for – chipping. When the paint comes off, revealing a bare sheet of metal - this is where rust will form and the rust is red… that's why I used red primer. 😎 In the next step I put a hair spray on the red primer in several thin layers. It was Wella hairspray, but I don't think it really matters... - just check what your wife has in her purse 😉

Then after it is completely dry I painted it with the base color. Thanks to the layer of hairspray using a regular brush filled with water we can easily tear off the top layer of piant - this is how paint chips appear.

I am honestly not satisfied with this method.😒 And I will not use this method in the future. Well, maybe the winter camouflage might be an exception. The problem with hairspray chipping method is the low control over the size and shape of the scratches. At the end the result was not perfect but acceptable.

Next part of the Sherman VC Firefly project is on the way so stay tuned!
